Maple Madness

The sap is starting to flow in Woodstock!  Join us this weekend (March 22-23) for Vermont’s Maple Open House Weekend. Sugar shacks all over Vermont are opening their doors to show you  how maple sap (which is delicious, btw) is boiled into thick, buttery Vermont Maple syrup. In Woodstock, maple goodies will be available on the green from 11am-1pm, and local businesses are sponsoring a maple leaf hunt and a chance to win a slew of seasonal treats. Saturday evening from 6-8:30pm, join local chefs at Suicide Six for a maple taste-around, complete with maple cocktails.

To burn off those maple calories, clip in with Vermont Overland for an adventure ride on Sunday the 23rd at 10am.

In the spirit of all things maple, here are two of our favorite cocktail recipes – one uses maple sap and the other syrup, so a provisions run to Woodstock may be in order.  Don’t forget to take advantage of our March special; we’re offering three nights for the price of two through the month!  Call today to reserve your rooms.

Spring in Vermont

1 oz. vodka (we like Vermont Gold, for a very on-theme cocktail experience)
2 oz. fresh maple sap (you’ve got to come to the trees to get the good stuff!)
splash of sparkling water
lemon twist

Shake vodka and sap with ice. Pour over an ice ball. Top with a splash of bubbly water and garnish with a lemon twist.

The Mud Season

1 oz. rye or bourbon whisky (try No. 14)
juice of 1 Meyer lemon
1 Tbs. maple syrup (use the dark stuff)
a few flakes of sea salt

Shake whisky, lemon juice, and syrup vigorously.  Serve straight up or on the rocks.  Garnish with a few flakes of good salt (trust me).

First up is our collaboration with Pentangle. Their new STUDIO 31 series provides “salon-style” concert evenings designed to provide a lively and intimate experience around the discovery of exciting new artists. STUDIO 31 concerts invite music-lovers to enjoy great music, great wine, and great conversation in small venues, private homes, and unique settings around Woodstock Village.

Ringing in the new year….
